Short answer: The cost of a masjid sound system depends on the size and number of prayer areas, how much echo the building has, the type and number of inside and outdoor speakers, the microphones, zoning, backup power and the installation work. Reusing good existing cabling can reduce cost. A site visit gives an accurate quote.

“Masjid sound system ki qeemat kya hai?” is a common question from masjid committees. The honest answer is that it depends on your masjid. This guide explains the main cost factors so your committee can plan, compare quotes fairly and avoid paying twice.

Our team has worked in acoustics since 2021, with 50 projects for 49 organisations across Pakistan, from government departments and universities to broadcasters.

1. Size and number of prayer areas

A single prayer hall needs fewer speakers than a masjid with an upper floor, a basement, a courtyard and an outdoor area. Each area may need its own speakers and its own volume zone.

2. Echo in the building

Domes, marble floors and tiled walls create strong echo (goonj). A hall with heavy echo needs more careful speaker selection, and sometimes acoustic treatment, to keep the khutbah clear. Treating echo can reduce the number of speakers needed and improve clarity at the same time. See our acoustic panels and materials.

3. Inside speakers

Column speakers or many small speakers spread through the hall cost more than a few horns, but they give clearer speech and less echo. The number depends on the hall shape and the seating rows.

4. Outdoor azan speakers

The number of horn speakers, their mounting height, the direction they face and weatherproofing all affect cost. Mounting on minarets may need special access equipment.

Follow the loudspeaker law. In Punjab, the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act 2015 allows a masjid up to four external sound systems. They may be used only for the azan (with durood-e-pak before and after it), the Arabic khutbah on Friday and Eid, and death or lost-and-found announcements. Other audio, such as dars or bayan, should stay on the inside speakers and must not be heard more than ten yards outside the masjid. Other provinces have their own rules, so check locally.

5. Microphones

Costs depend on how many microphones you need and their type:

  • gooseneck microphone for the mimbar
  • wireless headset or lapel for the imam
  • microphone for the mukabbir in large masjids
  • spare handheld for announcements and dars

6. Amplifier, zones and processing

A 100V line amplifier with zones lets you control each area separately. A digital processor (DSP) with locked settings adds cost but protects the sound from accidental changes. Larger masjids may need more than one amplifier.

7. Existing cabling and equipment

If the existing cables are in good condition and correctly routed, they may be reused. Old, damaged or mixed cabling often causes hum and faults, and replacing it adds labour. A survey checks what can stay.

8. Backup power

A UPS or inverter keeps the azan and khutbah running during load shedding. Its size depends on the amplifiers and the backup time you want.

9. Installation conditions

Work at height, dome access, decorative finishes and cable concealment all affect labour. Work is also planned around prayer times and Jumuah, which can extend the schedule.

10. Brand, warranty and support

Brand choice changes cost, warranty and spare part availability. Sound Krafted is an independent systems integrator. We source genuine equipment through verified channels and recommend brands on merit. Training for the muazzin and volunteers, and an annual maintenance plan, should be part of the quote.

Mistakes that raise the cost later

  • Buying many cheap horns for inside the hall. They add echo, and are often replaced later.
  • Ignoring the echo. Adding speakers to a hall with strong goonj rarely makes the khutbah clearer.
  • No zoning. Without zones, the azan and the inside speakers cannot be controlled separately.
  • Unprotected power. Voltage spikes and load shedding damage amplifiers without proper protection.
  • No locked settings. Each volunteer changes the volume, and the system is pushed into feedback and distortion.
  • No maintenance. Loose connectors and dust cause faults that grow over time.

Upgrade or replace?

SituationUsual approach
Good speakers, but echo and feedbackRe-aim speakers, add processing, treat echo
Old amplifier, cables in good orderReplace amplifier and processor, keep cabling
Frequent faults, mixed old equipmentReplace with a planned, zoned system
New masjid or major extensionDesign inside, outdoor and backup as one system

What to send for a quote

  1. Photos of the hall, dome, courtyard and minaret
  2. Approximate size of each prayer area
  3. A list of current equipment, if any
  4. Your main problems: echo, feedback, weak azan, faults
  5. Your timeline, for example before Ramadan

Frequently asked questions

What is the main cost factor for a masjid sound system?

The size of the building and the number of separate prayer areas, followed by how much echo the hall has. These decide how many speakers, which type and how much processing is needed.

Can we keep our old speakers and cables?

Sometimes. If they are in good condition and correctly wired, a survey may recommend keeping them and replacing only the amplifier or processor. Damaged or mixed cabling usually needs replacing.

Is acoustic treatment worth it in a masjid?

Where echo is strong, yes. It makes the khutbah clearer and can reduce the number of speakers needed. Panels can be chosen to match the design of the masjid.

Can the work be done before Ramadan?

Usually, if planned early. Tell us your target date at the phone consultation so equipment and installation can be scheduled in time.

Can you help with masjid sound systems in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad?

Yes. Sound Krafted is based in Lahore and can design and install systems in Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other cities across Pakistan.
